E-Way Bill Update from 01 August 2026: Key Changes Every Business Must Know Introduction GSTN has introduced important changes to the E-Way Bill system effective from 01 August 2026. These updates aim to improve transparency, tracking of goods movement, and GST compliance. Key Changes 1. Mandatory Ship-To GSTIN In Bill-To / Ship-To transactions, taxpayers must now provide the GSTIN of the actual consignee (Ship-To Party) while generating the E-Way Bill. If the consignee is not registered under GST, URP (Unregistered Person) should be selected. 2. E-Way Bill Closure Facility A new facility has been introduced to officially confirm the successful delivery of goods. The E-Way Bill can be closed by the supplier, recipient, transporter, or authorized person after delivery. Impact on Businesses Businesses should: • Update ERP and billing software. • Ensure proper capture of Ship-To GSTIN. • Train accounting and dispatch teams. • Review E-Way Bill generation processes Conclusion The new E-Way Bill rules will strengthen GST compliance and improve the tracking of goods movement.
